Dear
Friends,
It's
(nearly) spring, the
jonquils are bravely
blooming, despite
too many days of
unseasonable cold,
and The Liberty Free
Theatre is on the
move.
Our
collaboration with
the Liberty Museum
and Arts Center to
create a new state-of-the-art
70-seat theatre is
moving forward. This
collaboration of two
prominent arts and
community resources
promises to spur
additional vital
energy to Sullivan
County's ambition to
become an arts
destination for the
region. (To say
nothing of an
upgrade to more
breathing space and
more comfortable
seating for our
loyal
audiences.)
A
plethora of details
still need to be
worked out -- plan
approvals, code
requirements,
building and
furbishing, etc. --
all of which take
time. We hope to
have the new theatre
up and running by
next season.
Meantime,
we have (with some
sadness) moved out
of our space at 109
South Main Street
and are working on
plans to tour the
county for this
coming season while
we await our new
permanent home. Some
of the plays we are
considering for this
traveling season are
Krapp's Last
Tape by Samuel
Beckett, Mafia
on Prozac by
Edward Allan Baker,
two plays by
Tennessee Williams, Lifeboat
by Shel
Silverstein and our
annual assortment of
poetry, music and
fiction.
Please
make note of
our new address and
phone number in
the masthead
above. We can also
be reached by email
at libertyfreetheatre@mac.com
or libertyfree1@verizon.net
These
past eight years at
109 South Main have
been a rewarding and
fulfilling first
step toward creating
a unique theatre
that enhances the
life of the
community while it
entertains the
people of the
community. It goes
without saying, we
could not have taken
this first joyful
ride without your
support. We hope you
will join us as we
step forward into an
even greater
opportunity to
continue our work.
Looking
forward to seeing
you on the road this
year and in our new
home next year,
Paul Austin
